Yesterday, Morgan and I were speaking about eternal families, and great-grandparents, and how big our family was. Morgan said something about how, "And we get to be with all our ancestors." I was surprised, because I had no idea he knew the word and application of ancestor. I agreed with him, and told him he was right. Then he said, "Yeah, our and-sisters and our and-brothers." HAHA!

Morgan logic
It's been too long since I've done a Morgan quote blog post, and I'm afraid I'll have forgotten too many. I put a lot on facebook, so I can look back on my wall a little to find some, but there are so many I don't write down. Shame on me!

Morgan quotes
It is time for another Morgan Quote post. Most of these quotes have been on facebook. The ones that I didn't put there, I don't remember. Bummer! Except for one.
Morgan told me that he wished he could see a dead person. He followed that up with, "I would never kill you."
Morgan: I dreamed we were in Heaven.
Me: Really? What was it like?
Morgan: Forever.
One night I was putting Morgan to bed. He happened to see a spider on the wall by his nightlight. He got close and investigated. Then he got a shoe to squash it. He got all poised to strike, but then he paused.
"Mommy, what kind of spider is this?"
"A wolf spider."
Morgan backed away quickly, screwed up his face in a giant pout, and, now close to tears, said, "But I'm afraid of wolf spiders!"
This is what they look like.
I killed the spider. The next night, I noticed there was another spider in almost the same spot. I used the same shoe to kill that one. The next night, after Morgan was in bed, the light was off, I was out of his room, he called to me and told me that there was another spider by his night light. Yeah right. He insisted. I went in to show him that he was wrong, but there was another spider there. It was even bigger than the last two. He joined their fate.
I had a discussion with Morgan the other night, and we disagreed and did a bit of arguing. Morgan was arguing like a 4 year old, so I said "where is your logic?" He replied, "I'm allergic to it."
The other day I was telling Morgan that we were going to go to a Relief Society thing, and he was going to go to the nursery to be babysat with the other kids. He then asked if Megan was going to be there. I told him I didn't know, and he told me, "I like Megan. She's the prettiest girl in the world." Then I think he felt guilty, so he said that I was the prettiest girl, then Lydie, and then Megan. Haha. He may have his first crush! (Megan is a girl that used to live with our family when she and her siblings first came from Korea. Now she lives with another member of our ward.)Morgan told me that he wished he could see a dead person. He followed that up with, "I would never kill you."
Well I should hope not! And I also hope he isn't contemplating murder, just so he can see a dead body.
Morgan: I dreamed we were in Heaven.
Me: Really? What was it like?
Morgan: Forever.
Morgan said he knows when he has to go to the bathroom, because it feels like yellow.
We have a ton of house spiders in the basement. Our bedrooms are in the basement. It's gross. I hate them. They are big.One night I was putting Morgan to bed. He happened to see a spider on the wall by his nightlight. He got close and investigated. Then he got a shoe to squash it. He got all poised to strike, but then he paused.

Ribbit
Our last day of camping, Christine and I took the kids for a little walk to the river. On the way there, we saw a little tiny pond where spring run off had gathered. And where frogs had gathered. There were kind of a ton of them!
Christine caught one.
The kids were fascinated by it.
They all took turns holding it. First Emmy.
Then Morgan.
Then Kaien.
And kind of Ammon.
We made our way on to the river where we crossed the bridge. What is more fun to little kids than throwing things into river water from a bridge?

I remembered one more of the funny prayers that Morgan said. This one is a longer anecdote.
One night, I had Lydia asleep earlier than usual, and Morgan awake later than usual. I put Lydia in her little playpen bed, swaddled in multiple blankets, with another one or two thrown on top. (It got cold!)
It was full dark when I took Morgan in there to get him to bed. I turned my back to him for thirty seconds while I arranged his bed, and when I turned back around, Morgan was IN the playpen, standing ON TOP OF Lydia! Needless to say, I yanked him out of there in a hurry, and whisper scolded him. "What were you doing?!" "Why would you stand on your baby sister?" "That is NOT okay!" And such. I was not happy with him. But Morgan did a classic Morgan thing to do, and kind of shrugged it off, like it was no big deal, and I was blowing things out of proportion. Seriously. You should see the expression this four year old makes to communicate these things. He was very nonchalant about the whole affair.
So it's a good thing I get to see into his precious heart when he prays. Otherwise I would never have known.
"Heavenly Father, I'm sorry I stepped on Lydia. I didn't know she was there. That was very bad. Help me not to stand on Lydia anymore."
Ah. All is forgiven. I didn't know he didn't know she was there. He didn't bother telling me. He also didn't tell me he was sorry. *sigh*
Oh, and, good news. Apparently, being swaddled in three blankets, with another one or two thrown on top, not only protects you from the cold, but also from the weight of busy pre-schoolers. Lydia didn't even wake up! Amazing.

In the tent
Here are some pictures in the tent. Morgan got SO dirty every day.
Lydia sometimes napped in the tent. I brought her playpen and had it in there.
I tried not to let her on the ground much at all while camping, except in the tent. She loved the brief moments of freedom. And she found entirely too many things to put in her mouth.
Morgan had his little bed in the corner, and was quite fond of it.

Morgan says some pretty awesome prayers. It's always a hoot to hear what he'll say. I'll tell you some of the prayers he said while camping.
The first night there, he was so so excited. In his prayer, he told Heavenly Father that we were camping, and he was so happy about it, then he suddenly said, "I like it in in heaven. Do you like it in heaven, Heavenly Father? Well? Do you? Yeah? Oh, okay."
Another day he said "Please help me not to touch any pokey plants and die."
Another time he said, "Please help me not to listen to the bad guys."
It seems like there were more while camping, but that is all I remember right not.

The mind of a four year old
My computer is on the fritz, so I can't blog on it. So I can't blog about things with pictures. So I am using a different computer in the house to blog about things without pictures.
First, an anecdote.
I took Morgan and Lydia to Dairy Queen the other day. There was a little old lady in line behind us, who thought my children were adorable. (Because it's true.)
I sat with my kids on one side of the dining room, and she and her husband were on the other. That didn't stop her from making a couple trips to our table. Once, to kindly offer Morgan her maraschino cherry, (he refused it) and another time to show us a photo album of her grand-baby, whom she thought looked like Lydia, what with her blue eyes, bald head, and chubby cheeks. While at our table the the first time, I'd just sat down with Lydia in my arms, and was trying to replace the change from my order into my wallet. I had my change zipper open. I don't really know how it happened, but I want to partially blame it on Lydia. Anyway, the wallet tipped, and coins fell everywhere. The woman was quick to bend over to pick them up. Because she bent right in front of my bench, I couldn't reach down and help. But Morgan could, so I instructed him to get down and please help clean up the coins.
He said, "No, it's okay, that grandma is doing it."
Aaaaahh! That was the whole point, son.
Today I was playing with Morgan. He was pretending to be a doctor, and I his patient. By the way, Morgan says when he grows up, he is going to be a doctor, a monster truck driver, and a race car driver. Oh, and today he added a swimming lesson teacher to his future goals.
Moving along. I was the patient for Dr. Morgan. I decided to go to the doctor because I was sick. But Morgan told me that, no, I was there to have a baby. So I stuffed a doll up my shirt and went to see the doctor. I asked him to help me get my baby out of my tummy. Sage Dr. Morgan told me that the baby just had to pop out. You know, like babies do. They just pop right on out. Alright. So I laid on the couch and the baby popped out. Morgan bathed her, returned her to me, and then gave me a sticker and a lollipop for being so good. :)

Lydia the tank engine?
Morgan has been saying a lot of funny things lately, so here is another Morgan quote post.
One day, Morgan nonchalantly brought up the subject of love and timeouts. He told me, "People that love everyone, don't give other people time-outs." Oh really? I guess I missed that memo. Actually, I tried to tell him that I gave him time-outs because I love him, and I want him to learn to always be a good boy. Yeah, that really didn't fly for him.
Morgan loves trains. The other day we were driving near the train track, and we heard a train whistle. He was very excited about it. Then he said, "I wish Lydia was a train."
Today at church, an older gentleman was complimenting Morgan on his suit. He said, "You're a good looking young man."
Morgan replied. "You're old."
I guess we need to work on our manners.
Morgan likes to say "Yes sir-ree." But he also knows that a man is sir, and a woman is ma'am. So when he talks to me he says, "Yes ma'am-a-ree." Say that out loud. Or don't.

Surprise!
I uploaded the pictures from my camera to my computer yesterday, and came across a bit of a surprise.

In other news, last night during Morgan's prayer, he said, "I'm thankful for stamps, beautiful stamps."
Morgan often tells me that I know everything. Good boy.
We've been doing a bit of spring cleaning here, and went through some old toy boxes of my brothers. Many toys are being donated to DI, more are being thrown away, but there were a ton of Hotwheels type cars that Morgan inherited, (like he needed any more!) and he was so thrilled. He was raving about how it was the best day, such a good day, his favorite day.

I was wrong
I need to write down some more of the things that Morgan has said.
Yesterday Morgan was holding his Thomas train. In a mournful voice he said, "Chugga chugga choo choo, Thomas the tank engine is dead." I said something about the sadness of the situation, to which Morgan, now embarrassed, replied, "I wasn't talking to you."
Yesterday Morgan was in time out. He was kind of throwing a fit and yelling for me to go to him. I was choosing the ignore approach. My dad was closer to Morgan and told him not to argue with his mother, or something. I didn't hear their whole conversation, but I did hear Morgan tell his grandpa, "I don't appreciate that you said that."
Morgan's future wife can thank me. I'm sure I had something to do with his frequent confessions of being wrong. It's usually after I convince him that his initial choice about something maybe wasn't the best. So he'll say, "I was wrong. I do want to eat dinner."

Morganisms
Morgan says funny things all the time, and I am not writing enough of them down. The Morgan quote book is packed up somewhere in the storage unit, so I don't have that handy ledger.
We do a little game lately where we say how much we love each other. It's fun because I get to hear about geographic locations that I didn't know Morgan knew about, such as New York City, and The Statue of Liberty. Then one day, this conversation happened.
Morgan: Mommy, I love you all the way to Africa!
Me: Whoa! That is far away.
Morgan: Yeah. Is Africa in Idaho, or Dugway, Utah?
Me: Whoa! That is far away.
Morgan: Yeah. Is Africa in Idaho, or Dugway, Utah?
The other day Morgan said, "I just heard the Holy Ghost whisper, 'The itsy bitsy spider, went up the water spout.' like that!"
Driving home a couple nights ago, Morgan suddenly brought up his Aunt Stephanie.
Morgan: But Stephanie is sad!
Me: How come?
Morgan: Because I'm not at her house.
Morgan insists that he can see in complete darkness due to his "glowy eyes". So, because I'm a killjoy, I took him into the basement bathroom, turned off the lights, and showed him that no, he cannot see in utter darkness. He insisted that he still could. So I held up three fingers and asked him how many I had up. I was almost ready to believe that he had super vision when he started counting. But he went all the way up to five. The little stinker is too smart for his own good! Trying to con me into believing he could see in the dark...
Grandma and Grandpa Martin have a few toy guns. He has dubbed one of them "The Love Gun" because he put a heart sticker on it. I asked him what the love gun does. Let me tell you about it. The love gun shoots flaming hearts that brand your skin with it's loving shape. Youch! But seriously, he said that fire hearts come out and put a stamp on your body. Brutal.
A week or two ago, I wrote down the lyrics to the song that Morgan was making up on the spot, serenading his sister. "I love Lydia so much, and always her heart is beeping. Beeping all day long. I looooove yoooouu."
Today in church Morgan was drawing pictures. He drew members of his family, and for the first time, he drew clothes. Instead of just having limbs protruding from a giant head, Morgan drew a torso with arms coming out. Then he was ready to move on to the lower section. He said, "How do you draw wonderpants?" (He still says wonderpants instead of underpants! Love it.) I told him he could just draw pants, because you can't see the underpants anyway. He was upset about this suggestion and stood up to pull his pants down a little bit so he could show me that you really could see underpants.
Later on he was drawing "the stranger that I'm going to marry." He drew a girl with sparkles in her hair, he said. I guess he already has a vision of what his future wife will look like! Sparkly hair.

Patterin
Morgan loves patterns. He learned about them from one of the workbooks we've done, and now he loves them. Out of the blue, he will say, "Mommy, I have a new patterin for you. Blue, red, yellow. Blue, red, yellow. That's a patterin!" He says the word funny. Usually he uses colors for his patterns, but has been branching out lately.
He's my funny dude.Yesterday at dinner he came up with this one. "Sandwich, chicken nuggets, ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese. Sandwich, chicken nuggets, ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese." Today I realized that that pattern wasn't just another pattern; it's the lunch schedule he's set for himself. Yesterday he had ramen noodles for lunch, so today he declared it was a mac and cheese day.
I just asked Morgan for a new pattern. Here is what he gave me. "Green fan, yellow square. Green fan, yellow square."

My Morgan
How did my cute, little, mischievous, baby boy, Morgan, turn from this...
To this handsome, still mischievous, big, grown-up, boy?
He's just really been looking older lately. And I want him to STOP!
When I told him he needed to stop growing and getting older, he, in all seriousness, told me that he didn't know how.
Every weekday, (most every weekday, that is) we do his workbooks. He's finished quite a few, and he does Kindergarten-first grade work. He isn't even supposed to go to Kindergarten for another 2 years!
He's known his letters and their sounds for quite some time now, but is starting to put them together. He can sound out phonetic three letter words. He even tries to spell some by himself. Morgan also is good at writing. He can write his numbers and letters rather well.
One of our goals for this year is for Morgan to learn how to read. I think that is a very attainable goal. He's already well on his way.
The older Morgan gets, the more challenging he gets. He was the sweetest, easiest, baby ever, and that spilled over into toddlerhood. But there is a stubborn streak in this boy that is really starting to shine. He's been somewhat difficult lately. (Perhaps some of that can be blamed on the drastic changes in his life??) I've found though, that my being angry with him, threatening punishments, maybe even raising my voice (I know, I know, bad mom!) doesn't really do much good at all. Timeouts can be helpful, but I first have to chase him around the house and manually put him there, and that doesn't make me feel very dignified. But when I can get him to talk to me calmly, (and when I can talk to him calmly) and discuss the issue, and have him figure out what would be best to do, he sometimes will improve.
I've been having talks with him lately, and even though they are to discuss his negative behaviors, he loves them. "Let's have a talk mommy." So we do this before he goes to bed, and rehash how the day went. I ask him what he did good, and what he did that wasn't good. And we talk, and he commits to do better next time. And I think it maybe has a positive result.
Anyway, this post wasn't going to be this long. Oh well.
I love my Morgan. He's sweet, and affectionate with me, and always jumps to my rescue, like, say, when my younger brothers are aiming to provoke. "My Mommy is not a goose! You are!" Oh the bad habits he's picking up...

Decorating
A week ago we decorated the house for Christmas. Morgan was really excited to do it.
Not only did he like the Christmas tree, but he liked the box it came in.

He held up two pieces of the tree to his face and said, "pine tree, pine tree!"

We had to coach Morgan not to put all the ornaments in the same area of the tree.

Morgan took a few pictures of me and Mom decorating.
Now there are even presents under the tree. I've finished shopping for Morgan and Lydia, and so wrapped their gifts. Morgan counted his six presents and promptly said that there weren't enough for him. I said six was a lot. But he seems to think he needs ten presents under the tree. Silly boy.

Trunk-or-Treat!
Our ward trunk-or-treat was on Friday. Morgan was so excited. I was too, because it's fun dressing up your kids and showing them off.
Morgan has been making everyone call him Superman for a few weeks now, and so my Mom got him a Superman costume for an early birthday present. I got the hair dye that washes out and sprayed his hair black, then drew some eyebrows on him. It was hard to find his real eyebrows as reference. He barely has any. But holy cow, it made such a difference to his appearance. I couldn't stop looking at him. He was so cute. I even tried to get the little superman curl.

Lydia dressed up too. She kindly slept through the entire ward party so I didn't have to worry about a crying, hungry, baby.

We ate chili, which was bad of me to do, knowing how it might affect the baby. I was up a lot that night with her. They had a little fish pond thing there for prizes, then we did the trunk-or-treat. While I handed out candy, and Lydia slept in her carseat, Morgan went around to all the cars with a 12 year old boy in the ward. This boy, Enoch, is so nice and polite. I like him. He is really sweet with Morgan too. Morgan keeps talking about him, "That cowboy..." is how he references him, as that was the boys costume.
Enoch told me that Morgan would say, "Superman says thank-you!" He's so weird. I love him.
We had fun!

Superman!
Morgan hasn't seen a lot of the superhero shows or anything, but he is drawn to them anyway. He does this funny thing with his fingers, which I can't do, because my fingers only bend the right way, and puts his fingers over his eyes, like a mask. He did this during the primary program when he was up on the stand and looked out at everyone in his super-hero-ness. He also influenced another sunbeam or two to try.
Yesterday Morgan decided to pretend he had a cape. He was just holding a little baby blanket around his neck, so I told him to get his bigger blanket and I'd tie it around him. He loved it. He ran around the house as Superman. Last night we visited some family and Aunt LeeAnn gave him a sweat band that he has added to his Superman costume.
And what are Superman's super powers? Like I said, Morgan hasn't really watched any super hero shows or anything. So, Superman's super power is the power to turn into a bush!

In his bush form, Superman is invisible to everyone. Morgan cracks me up.
A quote from Morgan. Yesterday I was watching conference and one Elder Gong was speaking. Morgan looked at him and said, "He looks like a puppet." I have no idea what he meant by that.

Big Brother
Morgan loves his sister. The thing that I tell him most often during the day is something like, "Don't touch her while she's sleeping." or "Okay, that's enough touching now." He can't really keep his hands to himself, and it's always her face he has to touch.

He frequently asks to hold Lydia. After about three seconds though, he is done.
Recently Morgan has decided what he wants to be when he grows up. First he would say he wants to be a monster truck driver and a garbage man. Now he says first he will be the monster truck driver, then a garbage man, then a baseball player, after that, a football player, and finally a basketball player. He fully intends to do all of them.

Little Prints
Before Lydia was born we bought one of those deals to make baby handprints. But we wanted to do one print of Morgan's and one of Lydia's to show the size difference and for general cuteness purposes.
So we did.
Morgan's hand was so big it barely fit his side of the heart.
It was a lot trickier getting Lydia's print. She stuck her thumb under her hand, and after holding it in the plaster for what she deemed too long, she grabbed a handful of cement stuff.
And...she hated it.
Here is the finished product. Hehehe. At least you can still see the size difference. And hey, it has character, right? Right?
Oh, and just for cuteness sake:

And a funny from Morgan.
Morgan was observing me nurse Lydia. He said, "Is Lydia eating you?"
Later it was Morgan's turn to hold her. He touched her cheek, which caused the rooting reflex. You know, mouth open in his direction, trying to find the food. Morgan pulled back in alarm and said, "Ah! She wants to eat me! She was trying to eat me."

Preschool workbook
We got a little preschool workbook for Morgan recently. I started doing it with him every day last Monday. He LOVES it. He asks all the time if he can do it, and it's turned into a good motivator to clean up his toys. I limit him to five pages a day.
So far we've been doing two letter pages a day. He's still working on his fine motor skills.

Then we go on to a couple pages of things like, circle the two that match, or, circle what is different, or circle what goes together.

Then he's been doing a coloring page.

Those are done now, so we'll move onto other preschool basics, like numbers.
Every completed page gets a sticker, and when he finishes, he gets a sticker for himself.
A lot of the work is stuff he already knows. He's known his letters and sounds for a year now, I think. He can usually figure out what letter a word starts with. He knows shapes, colors, numbers, all the easy stuff.
Oh, a funny. He's recently figured out rhyming. Yesterday in church a lady was speaking in sacrament meeting and said something like, "and he lay down...lay? Lay?" She wasn't sure if lay was the right word or something, so repeated it a couple times. Then Morgan proved that he does listen a little bit when he hopped up and loudly said, "Bay!" The woman sitting in front of us told him what a great rhymer he was.
I'm so glad my little boy is so excited about learning! He's so smart.
So far we've been doing two letter pages a day. He's still working on his fine motor skills.
Then we go on to a couple pages of things like, circle the two that match, or, circle what is different, or circle what goes together.

Pregnancy Update
Well, I went in for an Dr. appointment yesterday. Morgan came with because there wasn't an alternative that was any easier, and he cracked up the Dr. the whole time. But we had another little ultrasound to see if baby girl had turned yet. And...she had! Yay!
Two weeks left today. I am so ready. Well, I'm so ready to not be pregnant anymore, so if this little one decided to come a little early, I would be thrilled! We're all excited to meet her.
I'm totally not sleeping well at all. In fact, I honestly think that I will start sleeping better when the baby is here and only waking me up 3-4 times a night. As it is now, I have to get out of bed all groggy and with the sore muscles and tired eyes that indicate a lack of sleep. At least with a baby, the hours that she's not awake, my sleep may actually be unbroken. Complain, complain, complain.
Yesterday I had Aaron take a picture of me because I was wearing a the same shirt that I wore with my 8-9 month shot when I was pregnant with Morgan. I look horrible in both pictures, but here is a comparison.
The angle is slightly different, but oh well. This is yesterday.
This is with Morgan.
I am carrying this baby higher, though it might not be too obvious in the photos. I also think my face isn't as chubby, which also isn't clear from the pictures. But yesterday the picture was taken from low, so of course you are going to see extra double chin!
Morgan is very affectionate with my belly. He's always giving "the baby" hugs and kisses and he talks to her, tells her he loves her, that she is just so cute, etc. I have a hard time keeping my belly covered when I'm sitting down because Morgan always has to come up and lift my shirt to talk to his sister. He's a sweetheart.

Because Morgan got a picture with Mommy, he insisted on being fair and getting one with daddy too. :)
